The sinners that God blesses.

Psalm 32:1-2

A Maskil of David

Blessed is the one whole transgression is forgiven,

Whose sin is covered.

Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,

And in whose spirit there is no deceit.

David among all sinners, knew what it meant to be blessed. The “blessed” state is one of harmony with G-d, at peace with G-d, and being right with G-d. Sin is a threat to all that. Thus it is impossible to be truly blessed, blessed at the deepest levels, eternally blessed - without being forgiven.

The blessed man is the forgiven man.

There is no blessed state without forgiveness of transgressions that assault the relationship blessing requires. Sins unatoned for curse us to death. David was a great sinner that had an even greater Savior in His G-d. The Gospel reconciles sinners back to G-d. The Gospel does this by dealing with the sin that separates us from the G-d from whom all blessings flow.

The word for “covered” is a picture of being clothed like a prodigal being given his Fathers robe to cover his filth from the pig stye.

It divorces us from what divorces us from G-d. Blessed is the man who has had his treasonous felonies pardoned. Blessed is the man whose multiple counts do not count against him. Jesus was counted a sinner because He took the rap sheet we created and judgement for it we deserve. Blessed is the rebel whose high crimes against the holiness of G-d are exonerated through the Gospel.

This Jesus clears the spirit of a man. This Jesus gives a fresh heart. He frees from deceit. Jesus ends the self deception and shadiness we hold so dear. Jesus engulfs us until we renounce our fraudulent behavior.

The days of delusion are done. We rebel against rebellion. You do not have to be hyper intelligent to be a Christian, just honest. Honest about sin and honest about the Savior. People holding on to the deception of sin have no hands free to grasp grace so the curse remains.

Those who come clean are made clean by grace.
